This week Kevin and i have be updating Ubuntu and while it was updating we kept our selves busy by creating decals wich has been alot of fun. I also made a ether network cable for our computer. the process in make the cable is rather difficult and frustrating. The first cable i made was the A version wich did not work for me. The color coding on the wires are stripe green, green, stripe orange, blue, stripe blue, orange, stripe brown, and brown. Iam sure i could get the A version to work if i spent more time on it but i do not want to waste cable heads soo i just went with the B version and it worked. overall i think this week has been very productive and we have progressed in the modifiy of our Pentium 3 computers.

This week kevin and i spent time just fine tuning are ubuntu and playing around with the vinyl cutter. We made decals for our computers and cars. i really liek using the vinyl.

What have you done this term?

This term i have done many tasks. I started fisrt with picking a part of the computer and becoming an expert on it. I picked the part of the computer called random access memory also known as RAM. I found out its many functions, its different types and what RAM is good for certian computers. this help me out in Kevin and I long jounery for success with our pentium 3 computer. Next i partnered up with Kevin to create our pentium 3 computer. We got off to a ruff start with out disk drive not working and then ubuntu would not load on to it. Eventually we figured out it was impossiable to fix and started with a new computer. With this computer we were off to a great start a were caught up with everyone in the class in just one day (amazing?). for the next week or two we spent our time updateing ubuntu and figuring out how it works. We then found a truly magical machine "The Vinyl Cutter"  wich soo much fun to use and create decals. We also custumized our computer with the decals we made. Recently we have just download Flock web browser to our computer.

 what the biggest challenge for you this term?

I think the biggest challange for me this term was getting my computer running. We had alot of problem with our first computer. Our disk drive wouldnt work soo what we did was take the old one out and replaced it with a different one soo that we could install ubuntu. Then we could install ubuntu some foriegn error kept poping up and we could not figure it out we spent about 3 classes just trying to but we finally decided to switch computers.

 what have you learned that could be useful outside of school?

i have learned many things.  i learned how to change computer parts. and i have also laerned how to use ubuntu wich could come really handy later on. say if my computer crashed and wouldnt run windows i would now have an alternitive running software program to turn to soo i could get work done quickly or homework. But i would have to say i would only you ubuntu if i had and it was an emergency, that only being because i have used windows my whole life and i am so familliar with it.

of the things you have done this term, what would you like to do more of?

This term i would like to explore more of the capabilities of our LAN. We could set up a whole sever deticated to Counter-Strike or Halo we could have tortaments. we could create a sever we anyone in the country could join. we could start a team and play other people form around the wourld that have a lan setup also. it would be very interesting and fun. we could also play the kids from Africa. 

i think learning how online video games work like counter-strike help you grow as a computer programer or just a computer wizz. it really helps you understand how programs are made and uses similar functions to C++ prgraming witch all of prgraming is based upon.

This week i have been sick two days in a run and was unable to do work on my pentium three in class. At my house i started to work on my side project. I took an old MAC that a computer that the school gave away and started to run MAC OS X software. I had to download the OS X on to about 3 disc's from my windows computer and then i loaded them into the MAC just as we did with ubuntu. i still have to fool around with it i would like to get a couple of games on it.

This week Makar and i worked on our new dell computer. it has windows 98. we realized inorder for it to connect to the internet we needed to instert a ethernet carda nd that we did. then we found out we needed a driver because it only ran on dail-up. So we found a driver off the internet on an other computer. we saved it onto a floppy disk drive and tryed to put it on the dell. it did not work for some reason, it would install it no problem then would not just work soo we are going to get a windows XP and install that and it will probly work.

Side Project

My side project is taking and old Mac computer that with the old software on it i put the new Mac OSX on it soo far and hope to ad many pograms to it even so games like splinter cell. Right now everything is running smoothly and only minor problems have a occured with starting the computer up when loading the new software for the first time.
